How to Enable Advanced Invoicing Features

What is Advanced Invoicing?
Advanced Invoicing is a collection of specialized features designed for UK businesses with complex invoicing requirements. These features are hidden by default to keep the interface simple for users who don't need them.
Available Features
- CIS Invoicing – Construction Industry Scheme deductions
- Late Payment Interest – Statutory interest and compensation calculator
- Reverse Charge VAT – Domestic reverse charge for construction and wholesale
- Mixed VAT Rates – Different VAT rates per line item
Step 1: Access Settings
- Log in to your Experi account
- Click Settings in the left sidebar
- Click the Advanced tab
Step 2: Enable Advanced Invoicing
Toggle the Advanced Invoicing switch to ON. This reveals the individual feature toggles below it.
Step 3: Enable Individual Features
Enable only the features you need:
CIS Invoicing
If you're a construction subcontractor, you'll need to set up CIS separately:
- Go to Settings → Banking & Registration
- Enter your UTR (Unique Taxpayer Reference)
- Toggle CIS Registered to ON
- Set your Gross Payment Status if applicable
Late Payment Interest
Toggle this to calculate statutory interest on overdue invoices:
- Include in chase emails – Adds interest breakdown to automated reminders
- Include statutory compensation – Adds the £40/£70/£100 fixed compensation
Reverse Charge VAT
Enable this if you supply services to VAT-registered businesses in construction or wholesale:
- Required wording is automatically added to invoices
- VAT calculation shows £0.00 with reverse charge note
Mixed VAT Rates
Enable this if you sell items at different VAT rates (0%, 5%, 20%):
- Each line item shows a VAT category dropdown
- Invoice displays a VAT breakdown by rate
Step 4: Create an Invoice
Once enabled, you'll see the new options when creating invoices:

- Only enable what you need – Keeps your workflow simple
- Set up CIS details first – UTR is required before using CIS invoicing
- Check customer VAT status – Reverse charge requires VAT-registered customers
- Use mixed VAT carefully – Ensure you apply the correct rate to each item
Frequently Asked Questions
Will enabling Advanced Invoicing change my existing invoices?
No, existing invoices are not affected. Advanced features only apply to new invoices where you explicitly enable them.
Can I disable Advanced Invoicing later?
Yes, you can toggle it off at any time. Your existing invoices with advanced features will remain unchanged.
Is there an extra cost for Advanced Invoicing?
Advanced Invoicing is included in your Experi subscription at no extra cost.
